(JBC) pg.26 The First thing I Bought Was…

I remember being around 4 years old still living with both my parents and saving up my money to buy myself a wallet. As a kid, I would always see both my parents being grown up and responsible because they had a wallet of their own. I took it upon myself to save any spare change I found and birthday money I was given to by myself my very own wallet. I remember walking through the store with my mom when I spotted a Bobby Jack wallet and instantly knew I wanted that to be what I bought with my very own money. On the ride home I couldn’t stop thinking of how I could soon fill it up with my own money just like I always saw my parents do. Looking back at that memory, I remember always wanting to be all grown up and have my own things. I liked the feeling of being responsible for my own things and knowing that I now had something that I bought myself. My parents did have a great impact on my decision to buy a wallet through their constant demonstration of financial skills. They would both show me how they kept their wallets and what everything inside them meant. In a way I believe I wanted to have something personal and unique of my own that I used. As a kid, the thing we want the most is to grow up and in a way, I felt like I was ahead of the game by purchasing something more adult and responsible. Looking back, I can still remember how I felt I was now part of the adult world and wished for more responsibility, however I know see how the pressure of wanting to grow up could wait a few years later and society didn’t need me to try to grow up so soon.
